Imphal, October 26 2013 :
All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has lashed out at Manipur MPs for maintaining silence on the border issue.
It then expressed that seeing the way the border fen- cing issue is being handled by the state govt, the student body is disturbed to the extent of saying that Govt of Manipur is shedding crocodile tears.
ATSUM termed as rare spectacular convergence of different political parties, communities and civil bodies worth calling the name in Ma-nipur coming out strongly against the policy of the present border fencing.
"Who are we up against with anyway?," it asked.
"If it is to the Central Government that we are demanding, what is the concrete answer to register the ongoing opposition against the border fen- cing issue by the concerned authority?," the tribal student body further questioned.
"We have never heard of our MPs raising these issues in the parliament nor tangible initiatives being taken in this regard at any level.
ATSUM therefore demands to know from both the state and the Centre clear policy of these actions," ATSUM stated.
Recalling the history, ATSUM said the people of Manipur are aware that Maharaja Gambir Singh died of heart attack on 9th January 1834, the day Maj.
Grant and Captain Pemberton handed over Tummu, Khampat, Sur-jail and other villages in the Kabaw valley, the Ungoching Hills, and the strip of valley running between the eastern foot and western bank of the Ningtha Khyaengtun following the so called negotiation at Ningthee (Chinwin) .
"A Maring Hill range was fixed as the boundary without the knowledge and consent of the people to appease Burmese King.
We have been tal- king about not ceding an inch of our lands, maintaining the territorial integrity of the state," it pointed out.
ATSUM then threatened to resume its second phase of ROTO (Reckoning of the Other) to help 'vaporize the dark political climate that is already gathering above us' .
