Expired food items confiscated

Large quantities of expired food products were found selling at different shops located in and around Pallel Bazar in Thoubal District.
The expired food products were detected and confiscated during a drive conducted yesterday by Social Development Organisation (SDO) Pallel.
While displaying the seized items at the Organisation's office, Sachin T.Magang General Secretary of SDO Pallel said that after the reports of selling expired food products in the state capital published in some local dailies recently, a drive against selling of expired food products was conducted yesterday evening at Pallel Bazar and confiscated a large quantities of expired food products which are selling at different shops.
He appealed to the concerned authority particularly the food safety officers to conduct a regular drive against selling such expired food products and take necessary action against those selling such food items with no regard for the harmful consequences on the health of the people.
Furthermore, Magang appealed to the general public to be vigilant and checked for expiry date before purchasing any goods without fail.
The total worth of the confiscated expired food products which were displayed before media persons was estimated to be around Rs.50,000 and the seized items included Cold Drinks - Sprite and Coca Cola, Biscuits, Sweet Toasts, Pickles, Rasgula, sweets, packed Milk powders, etc.
