Imphal, August 21:
Reacting to claim of recovery of arms and incriminating items from the MU Men's Hostel today MUSU president Ashirjit Luwang contended that it is another manifestation of State Govt's policy to quell the ongoing agitation at any cost.
The MUSU leader in a press statement countered that recovery of arms only came to light when the Imphal East district police team produced the seized items.
Rejecting the police version of having recovered the arms from a hostel room Ashirjit asserted the AK rifle and other items were, in fact, produced by the police claiming they were found at the hostel's backyard.
No student or University authorities also witnessed recovery of a hand-grenade as claimed by the police to be found from the hostel's table tennis room, it maintained while adding that conspiracy theory hatched by the security police to malign the image of the University could not be ruled out.
As the hostel building is close to the public road on either side the hostellers could not labelled as anti-social elements or law violators and the person pursued by the police has no connection with any MUSU activities.
If the said person is actually involved in criminal activities MUSU would not complain against initiation of any appropriate action but it would not tolerate sinister design to tarnish the University's image or create fear psychosis among the hostellers, the president stated.
As most of the University students are appearing in ongoing examinations any attempt to disturb the tranquility of the MU campus and hostel boarders in particular would be detrimental to the interest of the student community, MUSU appealed.
