Imphal, August 21:
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya has stated that he has no complaint against anybody for the act of arson on his outhouse at Khumbong Joipurkhul last night and said that he would even allow his house to be burnt down if it could serve the purpose of the agitating people in fulfilling their demands.
'I have no body to blame for the act', Dr Meinya said while speaking during a joint meeting of the local people and Konthoujam Block Congress Committee members at his Khumbong Joipurkhul residence this afternoon.
He said loss of lives, public properties and physical injuries during course of the ongoing mass agitation for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur is inevitable.
Referring to the attempted arson on his house by the miscreants after setting his outhouse on fire, Dr Meinya said that he would willingly allow his house to meet the same fate without any hesitation if the demand of the people could be achieved by doing so.
Asserting that he has been doing his level best as an MP to draw the attention of the Centre towards the grievances of the people of Manipur, Dr Meinya asserted that he raised the issue in Parliament during zero hour on the very next day 11 womenfolk disrobed and protested in front of the gate of 17 Assam Rifles headquarters at Kangla on July 15.Further, when the Centre contemplated imposition of President's Rule in Manipur in view of escalating violent unrest despite AFPSA having been lifted from Imphal Municipal areas against all odds, he along with Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing and Commerce and Minister Th Debendra met the Central leaders including Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and AICC president and convinced them against imposition of PR, Dr Meinya claimed.
Pledging to continue his service to the people, Dr Meinya informed that he along with former Lok Sabha Speaker and MP from Meghalaya PA Sangma would put up the proposal for discussing the statement made by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on the Manipur issue on the floor of the Parliament and take a definite decision on the issue.
It may be recalled here that some miscreants set his outhouse on fire last night at around 11.15 and attempted to torch his house as well.
Dr Meinya and his family members were at New Delhi when the incident occurred.
