Imphal, August 21:
The Manipur University authority has nothing substantial to do in connection with the recovery of arms and ammunition besides incriminating document from the MU men's hostel room, said the Vice Chancellor Prof Ng Bijoy in a press conference today afternoon.
He also contended that as the seizure is a police case the law enforcing agencies have to deal with it accordingly as per law.
The VC acknowledged that the police raid was conducted with consent of the Imphal West District Magistrate and he (VC) too was intimated on the search operation.
The raiding party also produced the seized articles to him (VC) when he arrived at the hostel campus at around 2 am.
Replying to a specific question Prof Bijoy informed that there is no restriction imposed on movement of research scholars staying at the hostel.
It could not be confirmed whether the hostel room occupant Chandam Jiten, who is a political science research scholar, was staying at the hostel for the last couple of days, maintained the VC adding Jiten also could not be traced at his home.
On security measures at the University campus especially at the hostel premises, he contended that three Home Guard personnel are deployed at the hostel gate everyday.
Meanwhile, the Acting Registrar of the University C Amuba Singh has issued a notice informing hostellers to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the University and not to indulge in 'malpractices' that could compromise the interest of MU community in general and hostellers in particular.
