There is enough evidence to proof that the current agitation in connection with demand for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act is being carried out at the instigation of underground organizations, claimed State's Director General of Police AK Parashar.
Addressing media-persons at his office room today the DGP claimed of underground organization activists warning to levy stern penalty against those who do not join the agitation resulting in the people having to comply to the underground diktats to avoid harassments.
Out of 40 protestors arrested by the police 31 have been detained under National Security Act for inciting violence, Parashar said while adding that police force exercised maximum restraint to disperse student and women agitators as they are most vulnerable to injuries.
He also called upon the law enforcing agencies to dispense their assigned duties in strict compliance to the law of the land.
On whether lifting of AFSPA from Imphal Municipal areas have brought about any positive result, the DGP expressed that it would premature to expect any dramatic improvement in the situation as time factor is equally important.
Even as the State was embroiled in agitation related activities, counter insurgency operations were carried out yielding arrest of 11 underground activists and seizure of four arms while one PLA and a KRA cadre were eliminated, further informed the police chief.
On security deployment management following arrival of additional paramilitary force personnel to assist State machinery, he ruling out any misunderstanding among the State and Central forces said close coordination is being maintained.
Under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister frequent apex security coordination meeting are held where overall security aspect of the State is deliberated to maintain law and order, the DGP said.
Regarding the ongoing investigation to ascertain the circumstances and cause of Manorama's death he stated that findings of forensic study report is yet to be intimated to the Government.
