Imphal, August 21:
Taking serious note of the current volatile situation in the State, CPI (M) Central Committee member Nurul Huda has stated that his party would extend all out efforts to fulfill the demands of the people.
'In view of the prevailing volatile situation, the question of reviewing imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur is very serious' and hence the party has decided to appraise the Central leaders, particularly the Home Minister and the Defence Minister to lift the Act from the State, Huda said during a press conference at the State Guest House here this morning.
Huda, who is presently in the State capital to take stock of the situation, said that he has studied the situation in depth and would submit a report to the Politburo members of the party so that they would in turn appraise the same to the Central leaders for taking up necessary measures.
Huda further said that his party would also press for dispatching a joint Parliamentary team to study the situation here in the State.
Even though the party is of the view that the coalition SPF Government is not in a position to solve all the major issues confronting the State, CPI(M) is deadly against any move to impose President's Rule in the State, Huda remarked.
Imposition of President's Rule would only create more problems, he maintained.
Huda lamented over the failure of the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to visit the State and address the agitated people and said that his party would urge both the State and the Central Governments to offer a special economic package besides taking up 'smart steps' to boost the economic development and employment generation.
While lauding the Centre's move offering talks with all the organizations including the insurgents groups of the State, the Left leader appealed to all concerned to come out for such dialogue and pointed out that the solution to the sensitive issues of the State could be resolved only through dialogue.
The talks should be made without any pre-condition, he added.
Informing that he had personally visited the injured persons owning to police action at the hospitals, Huda dissuaded the State Government from using force on the agitators.
He also strongly condemned the State Government for crackdown on the agitators and detaining them under National Security Act without any trial.
The mow of the State Government to declare the Apunba Lup as unlawful organization will not also serve any purpose in the solving the problem of the State, he further observed.
The Left leader also appealed to the public not to destroy Government offices and other public properties during the course of the ongoing agitation and noted that it would only have serious setback on the already grim economy of the State.
