Based on confession of an arrested PREPAK member a team of Imphal East district police recovered one AK 56 rifle along with two magazines containing 25 live rounds besides a booklet from the Manipur University boys� hostel room in the wee hours of today.
Following specific information of presence of a prominent member of PREPAK's Red Army the police team rushed to Wangkhei Angom Leikai Ningthem Pukhri Mapal at about 11.30 pm yesterday, according to Imphal East Superintendent of Police Kh Chandramani.
The PREPAK member identified as Heikham Chinglemba alias Pamheiba alias Makan (22) of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai was arrested from the northern side of Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
A US made .32 revolver with four live rounds were recovered from the arrested UG whose army number has been established as 80272.Chinglemba joined PREAPK in 1999, detailed the SP.
On preliminary interrogation Chinglemba is said to have revealed that he started to work for the underground outfit under the guidance of one Rajen Babu of Bashikhong.
On further grilling, Chinglemba disclosed of hiding some weapons at the MU Boys Hostel from where the arms and ammunition along with a booklet titled 'A brief account for demanding sovereignty of Manipur, written by RPF' could be retrieved.
The hostel No 118 is allotted to one Chandam Jiten (22) of Khurai Konsam Leikai.
Jiten was, however, not at the hostel during the police raid.
The raid in the early hours today was conducted after obtaining approval from the Imphal West District Magistrate, claimed the police officer during a press briefing today.
