Like in other parts of the country, the Government of Manipur and Red Shield Division celebrated 'Vijay Diwas' at Secretariat South Block and Leimakhong respectively.
Speaking at the celebration event held at Secretariat South Block today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh recalled the bravery and valour of the Indian soldiers during the Indo-Pak war in 1971 .
Describing the event as an indelible chapter in the annals of the Indian army, Ibobi stated that by exhibiting qualities of courage and commitment for the sake of the country's safeguard and security, the martyred Indian soldiers have laid the foundation for an even more stronger Nation.

He also exuded confidence that the Indian soldiers will be able to defend the country against inimical elements from within and outside.
Works Minister K Ranjit, Chief Secretary DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar and other top State Government officials were also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Red Shield Division remembered the gallant soldiers of the 1971 Indo-Pak war and also India's historic victory over Pakistan on the occasion of 39th anniversary of Vijay Diwas held today at Leimakhong.
Apart from rich tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country during the Indo-Pak war, a function was held at the Leimakhong War Memorial wherein Officiating General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division Brig RS grewal along with ex-servicemen and officers of the Division laid wreath and observed two minutes silence, said a PIB (DW) release.
The release also reminded that Lance Naik Albert Ekka, the only Param Veer Chakra winner during the 1971 war, was from the Division.
In address to the gathering, Brig Grewal reiterated on the need for all ranks to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation and discharge responsibilities bestowed on them.
Indian Army celebrates Victory Day in December 16 every year to mark the day in 1971 when Pakistani troops surrendered to a joint Indian Military Command leading to independence of Bangladesh, the PIB release added.
