MPCC president Gaikhangam has expressed that outcome of the ensuing Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections would be able to provide an insight into the next Assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Indian National Congress' 125th anniversary celebration hosted by Sekmai Block Congress Committee at Sekmai Community Hall yesterday, Gaikhangam exhorted party workers to work for success of Congress nominees at the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections for the democratic exercise at the grassroots level is an important step for the Congress party to reach out to the general public.
Opining that the local body elections are to be held at a time when the State is passing through a critical phase, he stated that outcome of the poll would be decisive in deciding fate of political organisations for the upcoming State assembly elections.
Conveying satisfaction that seven Congress nominees have been elected without contest out of the nine seats of Sekmai Municipal Council, he also exuded confidence of Congress gaining majority in the hustings.
Speaking at the occasion, Works Minister K Ranjit cited vision and leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and MPCC chief Gaikhangam for nearly two decades of Congress party rule in the State.
Pointing out that Congress party had swept the Autonomous district Council elections for the hill district areas, Ranjit also urged the general public to lend support to the Congress party candidates at the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has formally kick-started campaign for re-election of Education Minister L Jayantakumar to the State assembly with Works Minister K ranjit seeking support of Keishamthong AC electors at a public function held today.
K Ranjit and L Jayantakumar were present at the inauguration of a community hall at Keishampat Keisham Leikai today during which the former asserted that construction of the community hall would provide a common platform to the general public to discuss and share their opinion for development and progress of the State.
Clarifying that eviction activities carried out from Wahengbam Leikai to Nambul Mapal route was undertaken under the objective of widening the road stretch in view of increase in human population and overall development of the State, Ranjit also sought similar cooperation from all sections of the society whenever the Government initiates development works.Congress MLAs and top party functionaries were also present at the occasion.
