The Red Shield Division today celebrated the 39th anniversary of Vijay Diwas to remember the gallant soldiers of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and India's historic victory over Pakistan.
Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country during the 1971 India Pakistan War.
A function was held at the war memorial at Leimakhong.
Brigadier RS Grewal, Officiating General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, ex-servicemen and officers of the division laid wreaths and observed two minute silence to pay homage to the martyrs.
It may be mentioned that Lance Naik Albert Ekka the only Param Veer Chakra winner during 1971 war with Bangladesh was from this division.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier RS Grewal reiterated the need for all ranks to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation and discharge responsibilities bestowed on them.
Indian Army celebrates Victory Day on December 16 every year to mark the day when Pakistani troops surrendered to a joint India Military Command leading to independence of Bangladesh in 1971 .
