The second border liaison officers meeting of the month between India and Myanmar was held today in the conference hall of Moreh Trade Centre.
The meeting deliberated on sharing of information and taking coordinated action against unlawful activities and cross-border crimes such as smuggling of drugs and wildlife products.
The meeting also agreed on holding such meetings four times a month.
Narcotic Control Bureau, Superintendent, Imphal, RK Ibungosana pointed out that many legal drugs sold in India are taken to Myanmar and these drugs are turned into narcotic drugs in clandestine laboratories inside Myanmar.
These drugs are then smuggled into Manipur causing serious drug menace in the Manipuri society.
RK Ibungosana highlighted the need to share information and take up coordinated action against such unlawful activities.
The Indian delegation included Chandel DC H Deleep Singh, Chandel SP K Radhashyam, Moreh ADC Lunminthang Haokip, Additional SP Chandel Md Firoz Khan, Addl SP Moreh Y Ashok Kumar, SDPO/Immigration Officer Moreh M Rameshwar Singh, Superintendent of Custom Preventive Force RK Dorendrajit, Superintendent of Narcotic Control Bureau RK Ibungosana and SDOs of Chandel and Ukhrul.
The Myanmarese delegates were led by Deputy Commissioner of General Administrative Department, Tamu district U Nyi Nyi Htwe and Lt Col Zaw Myint.
