Assam Rifles team became the first team to enter into the semi final rounds of the 54th CC Meet being held at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) is organizing the tournament under the sponsorship of Manipur State Aids Control Society (MACS).
While Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei, after losing today's quarter final match was knocked out the tournament.
In a keenly contested match, Assam Rifles team beat SSU by a solitary goal in the first quarter final match played today.
SSU who paved their way through the quarter final rounds with an aim to win this year's title had to leave the tournament with a heavy heart.
Supporters of SSU also returned home with a heavy heart as their hope for the winner's trophy lost in front of their eyes.
On the other hand, Assam Rifles team who had won the tournament in 2008 has made it once again into the semi finals in their quest of victory.
"We have complete faith that we will win this year's title" said Santanu Basu, team manager and team coach of Assam Rifles team.
He said that his team found it difficult to tackle the players of SSU in today's match.
In order to win the tournament his team needs to insert all their skills.
His team will play the remaining matches with full determination to win.
AR team led the match with one goal in the first half of the match.
However the second half of the match showed some real actions with each teams trying their best to defeat their opponents.
SSU players got many chances to equalize the score but luck was not on their side and they failed to score a single goal against AR team and lost the match.
The solitary goal of AR was scored by N Kamei from a direct kick awarded to them from a handling of SSU's Y Sachindra.
Santa, Ajitkumar, Kuber of AR and Y Inao and M Bijen of SSU were issued yellow cards.
The second quarter final match will be played between FC Lajong, Shillong and Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) tomorrow at 1.30 pm.
