Imphal, December 16 2010:
The Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee, Manipur urged the chief minister to give equal attention and treatment to the cause of farmers in the state.
This came in the light of the recent announcement by the chief minister to grant Rs 10 lakhs to orange growers to help organize the orange festival from next year.
This was announced at the recently concluded Orange festival held at Tamenglong.
The Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee, Manipur is a common platform for all the pineapple farmers of the state.
The committee, in a press release, appreciated the chief minister's efforts for uplifting the framers of Manipur and urged that the concern shown to orange growers be shown to other farmers like pineapple, lemon or passion fruit growers.
The release also highlighted the absence of any official representation from the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department at the Pineapple festival held at Churachandpur in August this year.
It further said that till date the chief minister had not contributed single paisa to help organize the pineapple festival.
Asking why orange is favoured over pineapple and Tamenglong over Churachandpur, the committee urged the chief minister to pay equal attention and treatment to all the farmers in the state.
