Imphal, December 16 2010:
Police has registered a case against NSCN cadres for hijacking of FCI (Food Corporation of India) rice on the NH-53 on Tuesday night, an official source said today.
The case which was registered based on the complaint lodged by the FCI authority in Imphal stated that seven trucks rice loaded from FCI Jiribam were hijacked by suspected NSCN cadres before reaching Noney bridge along NH-53 on Tuesday (December 14) around 4.30 pm and kept under their custody.
The case registered with the Imphal Police Station following the complaint lodged by the FCI Area Manager has been transferred to Nungba Police Station as the place of occurrence lies under its jurisdiction for investigation.
It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday night when the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram was in Imphal to take stock of the internal security situation, the report of hijacking of FCI rice coming toward Imphal with security escorts hit local newspapers.
NSCN (IM) authority at Noney while admitting the detention of five trucks carrying FCI items clarified that they did it as the trucks are carrying cement in the name of ferrying FCI rice and claimed to have returned back the items whisked away by them.
There was a different in the number of trucks involved in the case.
NSCN (IM) statement said only five trucks while driver put the number at six but FCI authority in their complaint note claimed the number at seven.
