Imphal, August 12 2011:
Considering the intensity of the ongoing agitation and the casual manner of handling the situation by the Ibobi-led SPF Government, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) held an emergency general body meeting at Senapati Indoor Stadium today.
The meeting was attended by 80 Naga villages of Senapati district, NPO tribe hohos, SDWA, SDSA, village chiefs, village GBs, public leaders and village chairmen/secretaries.
The august house endorsed the joint NPO's presidential council and executive council decision to safeguard every inch of the Nagas' ancestral land and boundaries, conveyed a press release issue by NPO.
The meeting also unanimously reaffirmed in spirit and letter the MoU signed between representatives of Naga organisations like UNC, NSF and ANSAM and the Government of Manipur in 1981, 1992, 1996 and 1998 .
Any attempt to breach such agreements will only culminate in divisions among different communities in a diverse State like Manipur.
It reminded that the MoU signed on June 23, 1998 agreed to form a Cabinet Sub-Committee on Sadar Hills issue and that positive consultation would be made before any decision on the issue.
Asking the State Government to cease partial moves in dealing the volatile situation, the house condemned in the strongest term any hidden agenda or communal designs.
It also decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister to remind the MoUs and demand to safeguard all agreements without any prejudiced treatment of the issue.
The house also resolved to fight collectively against any encroachment or re-drawing any artificial demarcation of historical Naga areas in Senapati district.
