AR, 18 SIKH extends flood relief

Imphal, August 12 2011:
The 18 SIKH of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) extended help to the flood victims of Khajiri village of Bishenpur District which resulted due to the torrential rainfall the state witnessed in the past few days.
A water channel broke near the village Khajiri due to which the water entered the village.
Acting quickly to the request from the Flood Control Department located in Imphal City and a SOS call from the villagers, a flood relief column from 18 SIKH responded immediately with relief and rescue stores.
The broken water channel was repaired with the help of sandbags and by bringing a broken tractor into action.
The necessary fuel to run the tractor was also provided as an instant measure by the unit.
Along with the flood relief column, the medical team of 18 SIKH carried out free medical checkup of the villagers.
Medicines were also distributed to the persons who suffered minor injuries due to the broken channel and also as a preventive measure to check spread of any water borne diseases.
In the same time the 27 Assam Rifles of HQ 9 Sector Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South) carried out relief in areas affected by floods in Chairel of Thoubal District.
An elder woman of 80 years old called Khombi had been suffering from Liver cirrhosis with ascitis, requiring urgent medical attention but owing to the serious flood situation in Chairel village, Thoubal district her family could not provide medical aid.
The medical team of 27 Assam Rifles reached the flood affected site on August 11 and administered her with intravenous lifeline with TPR monitoring and stabilized her condition, saving the precious life.
This event took place during a Flood Relief Assistance Camp organized by 27 Assam Rifles on 11 Aug 2011, with the intent to prevent any major water borne epidemics and to provide medical assistance to flood affected populace of Chairel, Khogjam and Nungu villages in Sugnu area of Thoubal district.
A major portion of these areas were submerged under flood waters leading to displacement of a substantial number of local people to relief shelters.
