Imphal, August 12 2011:
The agitating members of Government Polytechnic Graduate Staff Association today staged sit-in-protest at the Takyelpat premises of the institute in pursuit of its demand for implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendation.
speaking to newspersons at the protest site, Association secretary L Shamungou said recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission has already been implemented by the All India Council of Technical Education contrary to the Government of Manipur remaining silent on the matter despite a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on April 1, 2010 .
Left with no other alternative to denounce indifferent attitude of the State Government the teaching staff members had been on ceasework strike since August 1 and intensifying the agitation resorted to sit-in-protest, he said.
Expressing strong resentment that the State Cabinet had already endorsed demand for implementing the 6th Pay recommendation but is yet to translate the decision into action, shamungou affirmed that until the demand is honoured the agitation would continue.
Reminding the Government that technical education in the State should not be neglected, he further informed that failure to honour the Association's demand inspite of another representation in May this year compelled the graduate teachers of the institute to finally resort to ceasework strike, two days after commencement of the annual examination that ended today with the exception of practical examinations.
He informing added that after the teachers went on strike the remaining examination scheduled had been conducted under the supervision of guest teachers.
