By leading an Indian delegation to Saigang and Mandalay regions of Myanmar last month, Chief Minister O Ibobi not only succeeded in forging closer tie between India and Myanmar but also scripted a new history.
According to an official who was a member of the delegation, Ibobi scripted a new history by initiating a process of trade and investment between the countries, apart from interacting with Manipuri diaspora settled in the neighbouring country at Mandalay.
Ibobi took part in a Manipuri ritual at a Manipuri settlement at Mandalay and his name was inscribed on a platform.
The Chief Minister also struck an agreement with Myanmarese authorities for exchange of students and teachers between Manipur University and Institute of Economics, Monywa.
The areas of exchange are English literature, management and political science.
An MoU would be signed between MU and Institute of Economics, Monywa with due permission of the Governments of the two countries.
As for the proposal for selling power to Myanmar for use in Tamu of Saigang region, the matter would be decided between the Government of India and Government of Myanmar.
