1 killed, 16 injured in road mishaps

Imphal,June 04 2013:
One person has been killed while 16 others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents today.
A man was killed after he was knocked down by a Tata Magic passenger vehicle at Uripok Polem Leikai at around 9.45 am today.
The deceased person has been identified as Oinam Bode alias Ibotombi (42), s/o Dharam Singh of Lamshang.
In another accident which occurred at Lilong Heinoumakhong at around 9 am, 16 people were injured after a passenger bus fell into a roadside drain while trying to pass by a motorcycle.
The passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries while the motorcycle riders were severely injured.
Most of the injured people have been admitted to RIMS while some others in private hospitals in Imphal.
Following the incident, Lilong Police blocked the road while trying to pull up the passenger bus from the drain using crane.
However, a team of Railways officials in one Bolero and one Scorpio MUV escorted by Police Commandos tried to pass through the blocked road.
In the course of passing the road, some argument broke out between the escorts and people present there.
The escorts whisked away three persons from the spot and released them after being beaten up severely.
The angry mob stormed the Bolero jeep of the Railways officials and broke its windshields.
A team of Lilong Police immediately rushed to the spot and controlled the mob.
In an unrelated incident, a non-Manipuri boy believed to be about 10-year-old was found drowned in Kangla moat here this morning.
The unidentified lad was rushed to hospital by personnel of Manipur Fire Service but succumbed on the way.
