Families demand action against ex-MLA

The families, whose houses at Wangkhei Angom Leikai were allegedly dismantled by ex-MLA of Wangjing Tentha Moirangthem Hemanta and his brother Biren in the intervening night of June 1 and 2, have demanded the State government to take strict action against the perpetrators.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, one family member Chungkham Bihari said that the land in question was bought by him from Nongmaithem Birendra of Nongmeibung Purana Rajbari and he had obtained all necessary documents including land patta from the department concerned in 1999.However, ex-MLA Hemanta's younger brother Biren, who currently stays at Palace Compound, claimed the land as his using a fake patta.
A case has also been filed at the Court in this regard, he noted.
Bihari further stated that Biren along with the escort personnel of ex-MLA Hemanta dismantled two houses on the disputed land the land using JCB dozers without any order from the authorities concerned.
The families also condemned the statement of ex-MLA Hemanta who denied his involvement in dismantling the houses.
