Imphal, February 02 2023:
In continuation of its movement for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes list of the Indian Constitutions, Meitei Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (MPSTDC) staged a sit-in demonstration at Hatta, here, and later submitted memorandums to MLAs on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the demonstration, MPSTDC vice president Haji Arafat Khulakpam recalled the people's convention held on January 22 and said that the movement for inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST list began since January 27 as per the resolution adopted in the convention.
Submission of memorandum to MLAs is also being done as part of the movement.
On Thursday, the committee handed over memorandum to Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, Thoubal MLA ex-CM O Ibobi and Khangabok MLA Surajkumar, he informed.
While pointing out that socio-economic condition of Meitei Pangal community in Manipur which has a history of more than 600 years is still underdeveloped, Haji Arafat urged MLAs and ministers to help for inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST list and adopt a resolution in this regard in the ongoing assembly session.
