Chief, secretary summoned in poppy case

Subsequent to detection of widespread poppy plantations in T Molphei village area under Tengnoupal district and destruction of the same by a combined team of Tengnoupal district police, forest division and personnel of NAB on Tuesday, the village chief and secretary of T Molphei have been summoned for enquiry at Machi Police station.
According to police report, destruction of poppy cultivation in different parts of Tengnoupal district is being carried out for the last few days.
On Tuesday too, a combined team of district police led by Additional SP (Ops) Y Premjit Singh with the assistance of Machi police station OC S Ibotombi Singh, 10 personnel of Tengnoupal reserve line, NAB, 46 personnel of Machi police station, staff of Tengnoupal forest division and women police constables of Machi police station under the overall supervision of Tengnoupal SP B Go Lian Mang and in the presence of SDC Ksh Roshanjit Singh destroyed around 37 acres of illegal poppy plants found growing along the Hill Range of T Molphei Village.
It is expected that the destroyed poppy plants would yield about 370 Kg of opium worth around 2,59,00,000 .
On their way back to SL Zougam village, the same team recovered approximately 3.100 kg of poppy seeds including the weight of plastic polythene from the hut of a banana farm near the village playground, the report added.
