AMSU prepares for 56th Hunger Marchers' Day

Imphal, August 10 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) would be observing the 56th Hunger Marchers' Day (Chaklam Khongchat) on August 27.Addressing a press meet held at its DM University campus head office here on Tuesday, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba recounted that 4 people including an AIR driver were killed during the students' movement on August 27, 1965 demanding a policy for prohibiting export of paddy rice as Manipur was facing acute shortage of food grains.
AMSU has been observing the day in remembrance of these four brave hearts who sacrificed their lives for the future of student community.
Informing that all preparations have been completed for the observance on August 27, the president said that the commemorative event would be held in a simple manner due to Covid-19 pandemic and with strict adherence to the SOPs during the offering of floral tributes at the memorial site.
A public meeting would then be held at the AMSU head office, he added.
He further informed that in connection with the observance, various state-level competitions such as painting, recitation, essay writing, symposium, etc, would be organised in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Jiribam and Tengnoupal districts.
Appealing to the people to extend their support in organising the observance successfully, the president further urged all concerned not to organise/hold any entertainment programmes, events or festivals on the said day.
