Imphal, August 10 2021:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has today helped farmers get urea fertilizer in various parts of the State.
A team of UCM led by its president, helped 6 Aimol villagers to procure urea fertilizer at the rate fixed by the State Government, said UCM in a statement.
The initiative was taken up under the Development Programme as envisioned by the body and the body aims at assisting Manipur become a self reliant State in terms of food, it said.
It also urged the State Government to do away with the system wherein farmers had to produce patta for procurement of fertilizers as many of the State farmers are tenant farmers.
Distribution of fertilizers based on Aadhar cards may be a viable solution to the issue, the body suggested while also appealing to ensure farmers fertilizers at the nearest point.
UCM also raised an objection against providing fertilizers to farmers through local MLAs citing that it can cause dissension among farmers and urged the Agriculture Department to appoint neutral and able nominees through which the fertilizer can be reached out to farmers effectively at Government fixed price.
The body also distributed urea fertilizers to farmers at Yaingangpokpi, Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, Gwaltabi, Wangjing Heitup-pokpi, Heirok Part I, Heirok Part II etc, it added.
