Govt plans Olympian Park at Sangaithel

In honour of the achievements of the sportspersons, the state government has decided to establish a 'Manipur Olympian Park' and the proposed site for the same was inspected by chief minister N Biren at Sangaithel on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Biren told media persons that the proposed Park is to be constructed in acknowledgement and honour of sportspersons who brought laurels for the state and made known Manipur to people across the world.
Statues of 19 Olympians of the state will be erected at the park and there is plan for keeping enough space inside the park so that more statues could be installed in future.
Apart from the five Olympic rings to be erected inside the park, efforts will be made to make the park a significant one and it will be developed in such a manner that it could be visible from anywhere including from airborne flight, he said and expressed hope that this will attract tourists to visit the park.
According to CM Biren, efforts will be made to complete sculpturing of the statues of 19 Olympians and Olympic rings which are part of the park before the enforcement of election code of conduct.
