Farmers' training on organic farming underway

Bishnupur, May 06 2022:
A two-day farmers' training programme on "Microbial technological practices for organic vegetable production", which is being organised under tribal sub-plan by KVK Bishnupur under the sponsorship of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM), Mau, Uttar Pradesh commenced from Friday at the conference hall of KVK Bishnupur, Utlou.
Bishnupur DC L Bikram, KVK Bishnupur chairman and former union minister Th Chaoba, district horticulture and soil conservation officer S Sushila and head of KVK Bishnupur senior scientist Dr Kh Brajamani attended the inaugural function of the training programme as presidium members.
An interaction session between the participating farmers and scientists of KVK Bishnupur was also conducted as part of the training programme and agricultural inputs distributed to 75 farmers from different parts of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, DC L Bikram emphasised on giving focus on agriculture and allied activities in the district as most of its residents are farmers.
The district administration will take up necessary steps for helping the farmers in developing necessary infrastructure including setting up of cold storage units to store perishable items.
He also stressed the need for adopting rain water harvesting technique and new technologies of farming to increase their production.
Th Chaoba spoke on the services provided by KVK to the farmers and urged the farmers to take maximum benefits of the services.
In the technical session, SMS horticulture P Bijaya, SMS agronomy Dr Sakhen Sorokhaibam, SMS plant protection Kh Maipak and SMS agriculture extension Dr A Tarajit spoke on the topics of 'Organic cultivation of vegetable crops', 'Preparation of compost by using microbial agents/decomposer', 'Organic management of insect, pests & diseases in vegetable cultivation' and 'Importance of FPO in farming community' respectively as resourcepersons.
