Accused in Lanthoibi killing case jailed

One Khagembam Ashok, who is the prime accused in the murder case of Ningthoujam Lanthoibi alias Ichan, who was found dead inside a brick field at Sabungkhok in Imphal East district on March 20, has been sent to 15 days judicial custody.
Ashok was produced before the court of CJM Imphal East on Friday and the court sent him to judicial custody for 15 days.
While producing Ashok before the court, IO of the case sought 15 days judicial remand and also placed on record before the court that a team of police along with forensic experts had inspected the brick field where Ashok (25) son of Kh Naran of Soibam Leikai Ahongei allegedly shot dead Lanthoibi.
The police team recovered one 12 bore SBBL gun and other incriminating materials from the crime spot.
During further questioning, Ashok confessed to committing the crime and informed the investigating police that the gun he used in committing the crime was a license gun belonging to his father.
Ashok also said that he is already married and has three children and that he eloped Lanthoibi thrice on his persuasion but family members separated them after every elopement.
On March 6, they eloped again but stayed at the brick field as family members were against the elopement.
While staying at the brick field, Lanthoiba asked Ashok to divorce his first wife and marry her.
But this demand from Lanthoibi led to intense conflict between them.
Ashok refused to divorce his first wife and chalked out plan to eliminate Lanthoibi and accordingly used his father's licence gun and shot her at about 10pm on March 20, detailed the 10's report placed before the court.
After hearing the IO's report, the court granted the latter's prayer of 15 days judicial remand for Ashok.
