People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) hailed the withdrawal of Disturbed area status under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from certain areas under 15 police stations of Manipur.
In a press release, PANDM lauded the decision taken by the Government of India and termed it as a historic move thereby fulfilling the long pending demand of the people of the State to some extent who have been bearing the brunt of the draconian act for decades.
Welcoming the announcement of the historic decision by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Parliament yesterday, PANDM maintained that the announcement is a result of the continued efforts of the BJP Government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
PANDM also recounted the earlier significant decisions of the Indian Government taken in the interest of the State such as the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State and naming of Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur as a tribute to the valiant freedom fighters.
Further being a sister organization of the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP), PANDM also expressed joy over the withdrawal of Disturb area status from different parts of Nagaland and Assam.
