Imphal, April 01 2022:
In pursuance of the GAD order dated March 26 with regard to reducing working days in a week to five while increasing daily working hours from 9am, most of state government departments have started implementing the order and employees have started working from 9am to 5.30pm from Friday.
When The People's Chronicle visited the state secretariat and other offices including at district headquarters, employees were found attending their respective offices from 9am and remained till 5.30 pm.
Top officers of different departments issued strict instruction to begin the new working hours effective from April 1 and some officers were even found checking attendance of employees.
DCs of both Imphal East and Imphal West districts instructed top officers of different offices in the districts to ensure that their employees attend and remain in respective offices as specified.
An employee informed that it is good policy of the government to have five working days in a week while increasing daily working hours.
The new schedules will give government employees time to discuss family issues apart from looking after their children, the employee said.
One problem to be faced by employees in going to offices early is that there will be no time to have lunch at home in preparing to reach office in time.
This problem could be solved if every office opens complete canteen and interested parties begin lunch pack service as 30 minutes lunch break is too short to have proper meal, the employee added.
Mention may be made here that the government has issued new office hours effective from April 1 and office hours for winter (March to October) will be from 9 am to 5.30 pm while office hours during winter (November to February) will be from 9 am to 5 pm .
