Dr Kamal festival begins in Shillong

Imphal, March 05 2022:
A two-day long Dr Kamal International Manipuri Literature Festival-2022, which is being jointly organised by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Shillong and Phunga Heritage, commenced from Saturday at Manipur Rajbari in Shillong with Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan inaugurating the event as chief guest through online.
In his address at the opening function of the festival, RK Ranjan said that the rich Manipuri literature needs to be made known to people in other parts of the globe and efforts should be madeto internationalise Manipuri literature.
It is encouraging that Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Shillong is organising an international literature festival at this juncture to popularise the works and ideas of Dr Kamal, he said, adding that organising such festival will benefit the future generation.
He also released Parish-ad's journal entitled 'Mangal' and three books written by former president of the Parishad Rajmani Nongthonbam.
On the first day of the festival, Manipuri writer from Bangladesh Ak Seram was conferred the first Dr Kamala International Manipuri Literature Award.
