One shot dead, four houses destroyed

Thoubal, March 05 2022:
A man was shot dead while four residential houses were destroyed in an election related violent incident that occurred in Wangjing-Tentha AC of Thoubal district.
The deceased man has been identified as Leimapokpam Amuba (25) son of Binoi of Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai and he was said to be a BJP worker.
According to reports, some people suspected to be BJP workers tried to destroy a house belonging to one Haobam Rajen of Wangjing Wangkhei Leikai on Friday midnight.
While the suspected BJP workers were near the residential gate of Rajen, a bullet fired from unknown direction hit Amuba and he was immediately rushed to Raj Medicity but breathed his last around 6am on Saturday.
At least three bullets hit Amuba's belly.
Regarding the incident, deceased Amuba's friend Moirangthem Bikash told media persons that around 15 youths of Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai went around the locality's polling station number 34/10 to prevent unwanted incident till late Friday night.
When they heard some gun shots around midnight, the local youth moved towards Wangjing Wangkhei and found shots being fired from the side of Haobam Rajen's house when they reached the latter's residential gate.
One of the bullets hit Amuba and he was immediately rushed to Thoubal district hospital and then to Raj Medicity.
On the other hand, four houses belonging to Congress workers were destroyed by around 100 BJP workers in Wangjing SK Leikai under Wangjing-Tentha AC.
The destroyed houses belong to Longjam Ajit-kumar, Longjam Umakanta, Longjam Inaotombi and Longjam Roshinikanta.
The incident occurred between 11.10 pm Friday and 0.30 am Saturday.
The attackers destroyed several household properties and vehicles of the victims without any warning and left the place.
