AMWJU condemns attack on scribes

All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has strongly condemned the assault and snatching of mobile phone of MAMI TV video journalist L Kanta while he was covering the second phase of the Assembly Election on Saturday.
In a release, AMWJU general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba stated that L Kanta along with MAMI TV staff reporter George Sharma were reporting from Charangpat High School, Thoubal district under Wangkhem assembly constituency when at about 10.30 am a group of people started beating Kanta, snatched his mobile phone and ran away.
The Union is shocked at such unruly conduct and regrets that a journalist on duty as per ECI guidelines was assaulted without any reason, the secretary said while recounting that a similar incident also happened with a TOM TV reporter covered the first phase election at Ningombam on February 28.AMWJU mentioned that L Kanta has filed a case at Thoubal police station in connection with the assault, while MAMI TV editor has also submitted a complaint with regard to the incident to CEO Manipur.
The Union takes the matter very seriously and demands the authority concerned to properly investigate the case and punish the culprits as per law, it further conveyed.
