Imphal, March 05 2022:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Manipur Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for ordering re-poll in Wangjing Tentha AC on the ground that INC workers resorted to extensive proxy voting after barring BJP polling agents from entering seven polling stations.
In a joint complaint addressed to the CEO on Saturday, K Bhabananda, L Tejkumar and Piyush Beriwal claimed that Indian National Congress (INC) workers prevented BJP workers and restrained polling agents in the AC during the second phase of the 12th Manipur Assembly Legislative Assembly election held on Saturday.
The petition specified that BJP agents assigned for polling booths at 2/34, 3/34, 4/34, 5/34, 6/34 and 7/34 as well as voters were not allowed to leave their residence since early morning.
INC workers also abetted widespread violence in the surrounding area to create a situation of terror since Friday evening, the BJP trio maintained.
They also reportedly submitted to the CEO videos and photographs of incidents related to burning down of BJP workers and firing of gunshots upon party workers.
The EVM in booth number 5 was also damaged by workers of INC, it stated, requesting for declaration of the votes polls as null and void as well as ordering re-poll in the said polling booths.
