KSO-SH calls shutdown over assault case

In connection with the alleged assault on its general secretary by Manipur police commandos on March 3 at Kalapahar, Kuki Students' Organisation - Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) on Saturday decided to impose a 24-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district from 5am of March 7.Backed by the KSO general headquarters, the Sadar Hills units has demanded removal of police commandos from the hill areas of the state and taking up appropriate action against the commando personnel involved in the assault of its general secretary within two days.
K Songreng Kom, spokesperson of KSO-SH, announced that as the government and authorities concerned ignored its humble appeal of initiating appropriate action against the commando personnel involved in the assault and removal of the police commandos from the hill areas, "we have decided in an emergency meeting with our federating unit today, to impose 24 hours total shutdown from 5am of March 7 till 5am of March 8" .
All transport, business establishment, government institutions, etc., shall ceased operation during the shutdown period, he added.
The spokesperson then warned of intensifying their agitation in collaboration with the public and various other civil society organisations if their demand is not met by the government.
He contended that the KSO-SH general secretary was assaulted by the police commandos without any reason while he was returning home from monitoring the ongoing construction work of its administrative office building at Kangpokpi district headquarters, adding the assault led to rupturing of eardrum of the student leader.
While recalling the police commando personnel's disrespectful remarks against KSO and civil society organisations, KSO-SH said that they will let the police commandos know what the civil society organisations can do.
KSO-SH also appealed to the public and transporters to cooperate with them during the total shutdown.
