Stage set for International Women's Day

As in different parts of the world, women organisations in the state have made preparations for observance of the International Women's Day on March 8.In a release, All Manipur Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatibala said that despite the observance of International Women's Day, discrimination against women by men is still in practice.
In order to bring equality between man and woman, the theme of this year's observance 'Gender Equality World' is very crucial for uplift of conditions of women.
If the theme could be translated into action, then there wUl be no difference between woman and man in this world while violence against women will decrease and there will be increase in the number of women legislators, she added.
She further said that their organisation will observe the day in a simple manner due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation at Irabot Bhawan, Imphal.
The observance will raise issues for giving more power to women, reservation of 33 per cent seats in state assembly and Lok Sabha, availing loans to women self-help groups at low interest rate and completing trials regarding crimes against women within a month, Sumatibala informed.
In another release, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association informed that it will observe International Women's Day at JN Dance Academy.
