KISS holds convocation, awards honorary doctorates

Imphal, July 04 2022: Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, celebrated its second annual convocation ceremony on Monday.

According to a KISS release, Ripa International Centre spiritual director and master of Tibetan Buddhism Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche stated in convocation speech that he gets a feeling that the voice of the tribal community of India is at KISS.

"From ecology to economy, real life is challenging and one can succeed only by accepting diversity.

Warm-heartedness is the key to solving most of the problems the world is facing today," he said and emphasised that the real meaning of education is to help others and contribute towards the overall good of humanity.

The release mentioned that the university also conferred Honoris Causa Degrees of DLitt upon four personalities of international repute namely, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune chancellor Dr Rajiv Kumar; UNEP Goodwill Ambassador and GIST Advisory Switzerland SA founder and CEO Pavan Sukhdev; Indian music composer and two times Grammy Award winner Dr Ricky G Kej; and Green Belt and Road Institute president Erik Solheim.

Congratulating the degree recipients, KISS founder expressed gratitude to Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche for inspiring the academic community with his words of wisdom and to Dr Rajiv Kumar, Pavan Sukhdev, Dr Ricky G Kej and Erik Solheim for accepting the honorary degrees from the deemed to be university.

The KISS release also informed that three, research scholars - Hisi Soren, Rashmi Murmu and Juthika Priyadar-sini Naik received PhD degrees at the convocation ceremony.

Lalbahadur Singh (2019 admitted batch), School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science & Technology and Chandrakanta Pradhan (2020 admitted batch), School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science & Technology won the Founder's Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA in the whole varsity across all post graduate programmes.

Similarly, 14 students were awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal, while another 14 students were presented the Vice Chancellor's Silver Medal for their outstanding academic performance.

The ceremony was also attended by KISS chancellor Satya S Tripathi, vice chancellor Prof Deepak Kumar Behera and registrar Dr Prashanta Ku Routray.
