Imphal, October 26 2021:
While raising strong objections against the construction works for keeping the wheels of Ratha Jatra (Kang) in the holy shrines of Lainingthou Nongshaba, Ima Yumjao Lairembi and Ibudhou Pakhangba, Meetei Marup has urged the government to look into the matter and halt the construction immediately.
In a release, Meetei Marup secretary general Angomcha Gojendro Meetei pointed that before the Meetei embraced Hinduism, Manipuri kings used to perform important rituals in the aforementioned places by establishing Amaiba Amaibi Loishang (Maru Loishang) or presently known as Pandit Loishang.
He urged the government not to erase the history of Meetei and create division among Meetei following Hinduism and indigenous religion.
Making it clear that Mee-itei Marup will never remain mute spectator if government fails to respect the sentiments of Meetei, Gojendro also pledged to fully support and participate in any movements initiated by like-minded groups.
