Imphal, October 26 2021:
Large number of women of Heirok Part-II staged sit-in-protest against the attack and life attempt on Thoubal district correspondent of Naharolgi Thoudang daily Elangbam Rameshwor.
Rameshwor is currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS hospital after he complained of breathing problem.
During the protest at Heirok Part II Bazar Maning, Rameshwor's wife Elangbam Sanatombi recalled that around 20/30 unidentified men came to their house on October 14 at about 7.45am carrying a copy of Naharolgi Thoudang and questioned authority on the reportage of black dressed men in Heirok carried by the daily.
The unidentified men then attacked her husband before he could give any answer, Sanatombi said, adding that there is room for making clarification about the news if it was not satisfactory.
Strongly condemning the manner in which Rameshwor was beaten badly in front his aging father and young daughter, Sanatombi demanded immediate booking of all those involved and awarding befitting punishment to them.
During the protest, several slogans against attack on journalist and ending goondaism in Heirok were raised.
On the other hand, another sit-in-protest was staged at Heirok Part III by local women and Kabo Leikai Development Association (KDA) against life attempt made on Abujam Ramananda (25) son of Abujam Ito of Heirok Part III.
According to the protesters, some unidentified men attacked Ramananda late Monday night while he was returning home at Heirok Part II Thokchom Leikai Doctor Shang.
