GP Member sent to judicial custody

Special Judge Prevention of Corruption today remanded former Member of Konthoujam Gram Panchayat Ward No 6 and granted interim bail of one month to Pradhan of Kongthoujam Gram Panchayat in connection with a case of irregularities in implementation of NREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) .
It may be recalled that four persons including the Pradhan and other three, a Member of Ward Number 6 Patsoi Development Committee and her husband who is the former Member of Konthoujam Gram Panchayat Ward No 6 and the complainant all from Konthoujam Makha Leikai were arrested on October 23 following an enquiry based on a complaint.
They were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West the next day (October 24) and were remanded to police custody for four days.
On the completion of police custody remand, a team of Vigilance and Anti Corruption police today produced the four arrested persons before the Court of Special Judge Prevention of Corruption with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
The counsels of the accused, on the other hand, filed remand objections along with prayer for bail.
The Court after hearing the submission of IO, defence counsels and on perusal of the case record, remanded former Ward Member to judicial custody till November 9 and granted interim bail of one month to the Pradhan till November 24 on execution of Rs 50 thousand PR bond and surety of the same amount.
The Court also directed the Pradhan to surrender before the Court on November 24 .
The Court also ordered to release the Member of Ward Number 6 Patsoi Development Committee and the complainant on bail on their execution of Rs 50 thousand PR bond and surety of same amount and directed them and the Pradhan to cooperate with the IO of the case and appear before the Court and IO as and when required.
