Senapati, November 01 2021:
Mao Students' Union (MSU) has vehemently condemned the defamatory statement made by a news portal against special public prosecutor (SPP) Koshia Mao.
In a press statement, MSU Information & Publicity Wing stated it has come to the attention of the Union that a defamatory statement has been made against Koshia Mao, questioning her integrity via a video posted on October 28 in Facebook page of the portal.
MSU strongly condemned the act of misinformation with malicious intent to assassinate the character of Koshia Mao, who is an upright law-abiding citizen apart from being an inspiration to the Mao society as she is one of the prominent tribal advocates who has risen through the ranks as a special public prosecutor with exemplary fortitude and sincere dedication, it stated.
MSU reminded that journalists have an obligation to seek out the truth and report it accurately in all fairness and impartiality.
However, the work of the portal's staff only went to show a biased media trial superseding the court judgements which is against the basic ethics of journalism and also against the law.
Such biased statements and allegations have hurt the sentiments of the Mao community, it added.
The Union also strongly advised the portal management to sincerely adhere to the ethics of journalism and avoid wild allegations that are in conflict with the law.
The Constitution has provided the court, the absolute authority to decide for that matter and give judgement in a case.
In this regard, the Union demanded the news portal operators to clarify the wild allegation immediately and retract the statements against Koshia Mao failing which appropriate steps would be taken up.
