Student bodies warn excess fees by schools

Six student bodies, namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, have asked private schools to stop profit oriented activities and collect only 50 per cent of monthly tuition fees from their students as mentioned in the government's order dated July 16.In a joint statement, the bodies said that the government issued an order to levy only 50 per cent of monthly tuition fees keeping in view of the hardships faced by the public due to Covid-19 pandemic.
However, some private schools are collecting more than 50 per cent of the tuition fees from their students.
the statement said and asked school authorities of UNACCO School, Holy Kingdom, Xtra Edge and Millennium School to come to their office for discussing the matter.
On the other hand, there are reports of Slopeland Public School, Khongjom collecting boarding fees along with monthly tuition fees from its students.
The school authorities should come to the offices of the student bodies and clarify the reason for collecting boarding fee amid the pandemic, the statement said.
It asked all concerned to stop private boarding and hostel services during the pandemic, and warned of strict actions if any such facilities were found functioning.
