Imphal, November 24 2011:
"Being an Opposition MLA, it is difficult to fulfill all the wishes of the people.
If re-elected as an MLA of the Ruling party, then I would try by level best to fulfill all the wishes of the people", MLA T Hangkhanpao has observed.
The MLA was speaking as Chief Guest of the day-long political conference held at Mongbung village under Singhat Assembly Constituency yesterday.
He said that to elect a public leader is a serious matter and the public cannot simply elect anyone.
He or she should have personality and be able to dedicate in the service of the people and the state.
The MLA observed that to encourage someone when he or she does something good is essential and there can be no progress in a society where there is undue interference and jealousy.
Questioning how a person who always put self before anything else can work for the welfare of the society, Hangkhanpao pointed out that when we speak of people of Manipur, there is no Meetei, no Naga or Kuki.
All of us are one and there can be development and progress when we live together as one in peace and harmony.
Expressing unhappiness over the alleged narrow outlook of the present government, Hangkhanpao asserted that the government has been neglecting the MLAs concerned at the time of taking up any development works in their respective Assembly Constituencies.
On the developmental works being taken up in Singhat Assembly Constituency, the MLA maintained that public has benefited from the increase in the fund under PMGSY from Rs 21 crores in last fiscal year to Rs 38 crores this time.
However, after the fund for development of the road connecting Churachandpur with Sugnu at an estimated cost of over Rs 2 crores had been fraudulently withdrawn by the contractor without executing the work, the road has remained dusty during summer and muddy during rainy season, the MLA lamented, and called upon to people to wake up and understand their rights.
President of Singhat Area Kuki Chiefs' Association Vulkholun Haokip presided over the function.
On the other hand, MLA Hangkhanpao inaugurated a hall named Seizathang Haokip memorial hall at Mongbung village yesterday.
The memorial hall has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6 lakhs
under BRGF.
