Patient dies in alleged surgical mistake

Imphal, October 14 2015:
A patient died on Wednesday after a doctor from RIMS operated him to remove stone from the gall bladder at Catholic Medical Centre (CMC), Koirengei.
The deceased patient has been identified as Irengbam Ronald (48) of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak.
Ronald is survived by his wife and two sons.
Ronald's wife Irengbam ongbi Ranjana said that RIMS Surgical Head of Department, Dr GS Moirangthem operated her husband on September 27 at CMC Koirengei.
Ronald was having gallstone problem.
The operation was conducted after a series of tests at the advice of the doctor, said Ranjana while adding that she was made to sign in white paper during the operation hour.
After the operation, one bottle of blood was given to Ronald.
She was also told by the doctor that the test result of Babina Diagnostic Centre was very different from the actual health condition of Ronald.
On September 29, Ronald was referred to RIMS hospital by the doctor.
Ronald died on October 2 last.
Before that, a total of 13 bottles of blood were given to him after the operation, said Ranjana and appealed to the authorities to look into the matter at earliest.
