Cheques, IDs distributed to weavers in Wangoi

Imphal, October 14 2015:
A one-day awareness programme on the handloom and textiles was held at the Wangoi bazaar community hall in Imphal West on Wednesday.
The programme was organized by District Handloom & Textiles, Imphal West under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
A cheque of Rs 3 lakh each was distributed to two group work sheds, cheque of Rs 1.95 lakh for technical up-gradation of handloom scheme components and cheque of Rs 30,000 each was distributed to three selected weavers of Wangoi Handloom Cluster under Imphal West district.
The amount was sanctioned under the North East Region Textiles Promotion Schemes (NERTPS) .
Manipur Khadi & Village Industries Board and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee vice president S Achouba Singh and District Handloom & Textiles, Imphal West Project Mangaer Th Sunila Devi attended the programe as chief guest and president while Councillors L Mimi Leima, Th Sumati Devi and L Babita as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, S Achouba sought the people's help in ensuring smooth flow in the development projects in the Wangoi area.
He said, "it is our responsibility to fulfill the dreams and vision of our late former Chief Minister W Nipamacha who presented Wangoi constituency.
Achouba was unhappy that even though the Government has upgraded Wangoi to a Municipal Council, still the people in the area are not getting proper benefit of the Municipal Council.
He announced that the Government is planning to set up 33 KV Power Sub-stations in Wangoi area to improve the power supply.
The Government is also planning to upgrade Police Station, Health Centres and other Government offices in the area, he added.
In the programme, Weavers' ID cards were also distributed to 516 members of Self Help Groups.
