Imphal, October 14 2015:
Security has been tightened in view of the CorCom sponsored 18-hour general strike which will be effective from today midnight till 6 pm of October 15 .
CorCom announced the general strike in denunciation of the alleged annexation of Manipur into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949 .
Additional police personnel and security forces were seen deployed at various junctions and important places from tonight.
Frisking and patrolling of security forces have also been increased to thwart any unwanted incident.
A statement issued by CorCom some days back had urged the people to stay indoor during the general strike.
However, the statement said that the bandh would be relaxed for essential services, religious function, medical and media persons.
General strike on October 15 has been called down the years by the rebel outfits to denounce the 'merger agreement' signed on this day in 1949 .
The rebel outfits have maintained that the 'merger agreement' was coerced and was an annexation.
