Imphal, October 14 2015:
Heingang Kendra Block Congress Committee has warned of imminent public agitation if the authority concerned fails to repair the dilapidated condition of Koirengei to Sangakpham stretch of NH-39 at the earliest.
Inspecting the highway stretch from Koirengei to Mantripukhri CRPF camp, Nandalal Angomcha, president of Heingang Kendra BCC said the highway stretch from Koirengei Old Airfield to Khabam Lamkhai has sunk drastically.
As a result, the area has become prone to accident.
Several lives have been lost and many others have been hospitalised after receiving injuries due to accidents in the area.
Due to dilapidated condition of the road and heavy traffic volume along the stretch from Mantripukhri to CRPF gate, the area has become hazardous for commuters plying along the road, he said.
The road has been in a deplorable condition due to awarding construction works to contractors who compromised with quality and negligence on the part of the authority concerned to oversee the construction, Nandalal said.
The authority concerned including the Chief Minister and Minister concerned has been urged to station heavy vehicles which are parked on both sides of the road at Mantripukhri to Koirengei Old Airfield since two years back.
However, no positive action has been taken up so far.
As such, residents of Chingmeirong Awang side may rise in protest unless the Govt takes up concrete action in this regard at the earliest, he warned.
The local MLA N Biren had highlighted the matter even in the State Assembly, he added.
