CLP begins selection process of candidates

Imphal, August 07 2021:
In connection with the upcoming Manipur Legislative Session on August 20 and also the State Legislative Assembly elections due next year, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) convened a meeting on Saturday to decide on candidates who will be contesting the polls in all assembly constituencies of the state.
Presided over by CLP leader O Ibobi, 12 out of 16 Congress MLAs attended the meeting which was held at Congress Bhawan.
MLAs DD Thaisii, Alfred K Arthur and Fazur Rahim skipped the meeting due to personal appointments while MLA Yamthong Haokip remained unreachable.
During the meeting, discussions were held with regard to the upcoming Assembly session and various issues plaguing the state particularly the Covid-19 pandemic, the steps and failures of the government in controlling the situation, urea shortage, irregularities in subsidised rice distribution and others issues, etc., so as to bring up the same in the House for debate.
The second agenda of the meeting was to discuss fielding Congress candidates in all ACs and consulting with block level office bearers to select the best candidates for the polls in respective constituencies.
The meeting also agreed on holding another CLP meeting on August 9.The meeting on Saturday was attended by MLAs Gaikhangam (AICC member), N Loken (MPCC president), Dr Chaltonlien Amo, TN Haokip, K Meghachandra, K Ranjit, DK Korungthang, Th Lokeshwar, AK Mirabai, Kh Joykisan and O Surjakumar.
