College of Nursing, Manipur celebrates foundation day

"Be it in teaching, administration or research related areas in addition to bedside or clinical service in nursing profession, the main objective is to provide improvement in health care and delivery system for the public," maintained Professor M.Kumudini Devi, principal, College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat, Imphal while speaking at the foundation day cum oath taking ceremony of 3 batch first year B.Sc Nursing (2014-15) batch held at the college here today.
The college is the first and only college of Nursing of the Government of Manipur.
Giving the key note, the Professor Kumudini said that in the present context of health economics, the prevention of disease is much cheaper than treatment of the disease, safer from side effects of drugs and sustainable for our health.
As such, people should give importance to this area too.
The College of Nursing was upgraded from the school of G..NM., Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat in the year 2012 and its first class started on November 5, 2012.The School of G..NM., Medical Directorate, Manipur Government was separated from the erstwhile school of G..N.Mand A..NM., which was situated at the campus of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in the year 2001.She then mentioned that the institution became the present nursing college amidst many limitations and shortcomings.
The goodwill of the Health Department of Manipur and tireless attitude of the faculty members however, made the task easier, she added.
She also said that opening of South East corridor through Manipur and Myanmar would surely open the gate of employment opportunities in South East Asian countries and people of the state should try of grasp the opportunity.
Further, in order to initiate the smooth functioning of the College, Professor Kumudini placed certain points for consideration which includes appointment of required teaching and non teaching staff of the College, payment of honorarium of the guest lecturers, purchase of two 50 seated buses for smooth conduct of clinical teaching programme, early completion and inauguration of the Administrative building of the College and arrangement of VIP water supply connection.
The occasion was attended by Phungjathang Tonsing, minister, Health and FW Services/GAD/CADA, government of Manipur and Dr.Suresh Babu, IAS, principal secretary, Health and FW Services, Manipur as functional president.
Meanwhile, Dr..OIbomcha Singh, director, Health Services and Professor M.Shyamo Singh, director, JNIMS, Porompat also graced the function as guests of honour.
