Role of media in consolidating cooperative movement in State stressed

The role of media in educating the people about various benefits of cooperative is pivotal, said W Rajen, Director of Directorate of Information & Public Relation (DIPR) while attending a one-day workshop on the theme 'Role of Media in Strengthening Cooperative Movement in Manipur' at the auditorium of Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat today.
The workshop was organized by Oriental Women Labor Cooperative Society in collaboration with ICM; National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI); Educational Filed Project Thoubal and NCUI Cooperative Educational Project Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, W Rajen opined that the pace of cooperative movement in the State needs to be accelerated while noting the role of media in making the people realize various benefits of cooperative.

He maintained that the role of media in a democratic country is of paramount importance and called upon the fourth pillar of democracy to cover the news of cooperative extensively as a tool to sensitize the people.
Noting that the high rate of unemployment in the State could be minimized considerably if cooperative is developed, he pointed out that the economic distribution system in the State has completely failed which is due to privatization.
Jina Potsangbam, chairperson of Oriental Women Labor Cooperative Society who was present at the occasion as president asserted that it is high time to give emphasis to cooperative which could help the problem of unemployment in the State to much extent and conceded that many women who have received training cooperative are sustaining their livelihood.
Today's workshop was also attended by Kh Khamba, president of Manipur State Cooperative Bank Board and Dr Kh Somorendro, Director of ICM as guests of honor.
Attending as resource person, A Mobi, president of Editors' Guild Manipur spoke on Role of Media in Developing Cooperative in the State.
